Saddened by the passing of the visionary collector Saddened by the passing of the visionary collector Forrest Merrill. Inspired by an art teacher in high school, Forrest began collecting and championing craft as a young man in the 1950s, purchasing his first piece from Glen Lutkens. His appreciation for artists who threw, carved, wove, enameled, forged, and sculpted and his quest to bring their work to people to educate and inspire them was remarkable. Stories about people he called friends, from David Gilhooley and Robert Arneson, Kay Sekimachi and Bob Stocksdale, the Natzlers and the Heinos, June Schwartz and Mary Renk could fill a book. The Ackerman family was fortunate to call him a friend as well. Ten years ago, nearly to the day, Jerry then 96 and Forrest 83, enjoyed each other’s company at the show on Kay Sekimachi’s work @craftcontemporary. RIP friend. #evelynackerman #jeromeackerman #toshikotakaezu #collection #pondfarm
Thanks @samuelhildreth for sharing this vintage @a Thanks @samuelhildreth for sharing this vintage @apnews image of the 1960 National Association of Home Builders convention and exposition in Chicago. He spotted an Elipses mosaic on the wall—not surprising given the relationship between the Ackermans and Paul McCobb. Syndicated business columns in newspapers across the country ran this image to highlight new home technologies and residential consumer trends. A Throwback Thursday winner! #evelynackerman #paulmccobb #jeromeackerman #interiordesign #tbt @homebuilders
The @diadetroit recently acquired a Buildings tape The @diadetroit recently acquired a Buildings tapestry in its collection…and now another is @wrightauction tomorrow! The geometric design is sophisticated with a touch of whimsy, a little reminiscent of Alexander Girard. #detroitinstituteofarts #wrightauction #evelynackerman #jeromeackerman #alexandergirard
Wow @vintageconceptdesign! They recreated an ad fo Wow @vintageconceptdesign! They recreated an ad for a 1966 Chromcraft Sculpta dining set, even including the Panelcarve wall with a number of Evelyn’s designs (Aurora, Zodiac, Candelabra).
